What You Need To Throw The Perfect Winter Dinner Party
There is no better time for a dinner party than during the winter. If you have never hosted a party it is not uncommon to feel a little overwhelmed with what to do. If you have your preparations in order it is a very simple plan. The first thing to do is decide how many guests you would like to invite. A good time consists of plenty of food, hot drinks and themed decorations.
When preparing the menu it is important to consider how many guests you plan to invite. For a small gathering your menu could consist of chili or beef stew served in bread bowls with a salad of fresh winter greens. This type of menu is great when you want to invite several guests.
A formal dinner requires more courses be served. You should plan an appetizer, a nice salad; a soup could consist of something light, the entree which could be a nice roast and the dessert.
Remember to send out invitations a couple of weeks in advance. The invitation should represent the type of dinner party you are planning. For example, if it is an informal gathering request your guest to dress casual for some fun outdoor activities. Formal dinner invitations could include the menu to make them appear more formal. On either invitation be sure to include an RSVP and a date for the latest response, in order to purchase sufficient food.
Decorating can be extravagant or simply. For a winter theme you will want cool colors such as blues and whites. Placing small lights in your potted plants adds a great ambiance. If you are having a buffet style meal, use sheets of Christmas snow to place the food on with paper snowflakes spread through out the area and Styrofoam balls make great snowballs. Use a material that has a flowing look to it for the tablecloth and use white dishes through out.
Dessert could consist of peppermint flavored cake or sherbet. Following desert provide your guest a cup of hot chocolate complete with a candy cane. Activities should be winter related. A good idea around the holidays is to have guests bring an inexpensive toy to be donated to a children’s charity. Provide wrapping paper and bows and have the guests sit together and wrap their gifts for donations.
Having a party is not a time for stress, it is a time to laugh, eat and enjoy your friends. If you are relaxed and having fun, your guests will as well. Play soft music in the background according to the atmosphere, for example if you are wrapping presents play Christmas music. Just remember you are there to have fun and catch up so enjoy yourself.
