It may come across as just another teen movie, but it definitely is not that, in fact it is a lot more than that. However, a lot of people are led to believe that this is just a teen movie because of the misleading tag line which says “Matt never saw her coming – but all his friends had!”
Every year we see a lot of stereotype teen movies released which fail to humor or entertain us. The Girl Next Door is a beacon of light that lights up our hopes of expecting something better from a movie with almost 90% teenage characters.
Humor is the primary ingredient than you can relish in this movie. I don’t mean to indicate that other teen movies aren’t funny but the fact remains that the humor in them is predominantly of the slapstick sort. In this movie, you’re ‘humored’ with intelligent wisecracks that really crack you up.
The movie also boasts a good plot that has moments that you can relate to. The story revolves around the main characters of Matthew and Danielle who seem to be growing up too fast for their own liking. This loss of innocence is also the theme in the lives of the other two characters – Kilts and Eli.
As a nerd who earns straight As, Matthew has always excelled in studies but failed in having a good time. Things start to happen when he finds himself falling for his new next door neighbor Danielle. Having barely started seeing Danielle, their relationship suffers a blow when Matthew is informed by his friend Eli that Danielle has a colorful past as a porn star. Things get even more complicated when Danielle is asked to act in another such film by her ex-producer.
Matthew is justifiably confused about whether to abandon the relationship and walk away or allow Danielle to go ahead. The ensuing drama unfolds keeping audiences captivated. It makes for great viewing aided by the youngsters’ remarkable acting skills.
