Visiting Istanbul
Istanbul is a city which impossible to split into distinct areas besides its European & Asian side which separated by Bosphorus. Its origin starting from Black Sea and runs into the Sea of Marmara spreading about 10-13 million of its local population. It is a city which described as one of the chic, cultural and historical centers among surrounding European countries with its diversity in Islamic and Christian backgrounds.
Istanbul’s population is considered to the youngest among its bordering countries which plays a huge part in its cultural and economic development. Its demand for modern goods & services has increased the growth of shopping centers, wide range of restaurants and various local service centers. There are many more places for entertainment in comparison to previous decades, people are in the search of places to have dinner/drink, enjoy dancing in the sociable atmosphere and other activities.
Kebap houses, bufets and fast-foods joints can supply cheap meals on the run. But, there are many nice restaurants out there as well. If you would like to eat at a authentic restaurant fishermen’s quarter of Kumkapi behind Sultanahmet, Istiklal Caddesi and its side alleys (Cicek Passage, Nevizade Sokak) are the best places.
If you are traveling during high seasons, you must book your accommodations in advance. Most of the hotels might be booked or not offering great prices. If you are conducting your search, you should start from looking into the areas which interest you the most. If you are looking to visit mostly tourist places, you should consider staying in Sultanahmet. It is minutes of walking from Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and Aya Sofya. Most of the hotels in this sear are reasonable priced but you can consider bargaining if you think the price seem to be high.
If you are traveling to Istanbul, some of the best and at the same time worst hotels are located in the area called Sultanahmet which is the heart of Istanbul’s tourist area. You can easily find five star and boutique hotels in this area. It is within minutes of walking from Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and Aya Sofya. This district presents on-location sense of history. If you are interested in shopping and more business related adventure, you should be looking into staying in Beyoglu, Taksim. Rates here are relatively higher that in other areas because of its location & easy access to Bosphorus & Beyoglu. Beyoglu has the best wining, dining and shopping in the city. Also, getting to/from the historical sights of Old Istanbul from Beyoglu is pretty easy. Suburbs along the Bosphorus can give you an interesting alternative staying in the city center and even cheaper hotels on the Asian side, Kadikoy & Uskudar.
