Round Rugs For Creative Decoration

by Abigail Foster

A great option for rug shopping is to buy something quite unusual. Nothing shocking but something out of the ordinary – opt for a round rug! Rugs are commonly rectangular in shape but a rounded one gives style, beauty and appeal to a room just like any other rugs. Going different with a new shape however, can add some flair to your interior decors.

A round rug can be an interesting focal point in a room. Most spaces are filled with furniture that tends to be square or angular and the graceful curve of a round rug will be attractive to the eye. The curved shape makes a nice change from the rigid lines of furniture. So a round rug makes an excellent focal point in a room, and not only looks beautiful itself, but also enhances the beauty of the rest of the room.

It is particularly appealing when all the colors coincide with each other. Either the rug’s color evens out the rest of the room making the place more attractive, or the tones of the furnishings and the other items complement with the rug making it the focal point of the whole room. What a unique and inexpensive way to utilize a decoration. Whichever way will surely improve any room whether it’s as formal as the receiving area or as familiar as the bathroom.

A round rug when properly placed on the floor will look good no matter how plain or conventional the background is. It suits wooden, tiled or concrete flooring. Wall-to-wall carpeted flooring is no exception as a round rug can also enhance its look and can be used to mark a seating area, to call attention to a specific part of the room or to serve as cover for high traffic areas in the carpeting.

Round rugs can be used in almost all living spaces. Aside from the usual living room, bedroom and family room, a round rug fits in the bathroom, kitchen and the veranda as well. No need for a grand makeover to spice up your home. Just change your round rugs every so often with various designs, patterns and colors, and your rooms will look different every time. You can even use round rugs as an alternative for wall-to-wall carpeting if you find this a bit expensive. Rugs are easier to change and clean anyway. In addition, they are more flexible giving you more room to experiment with different designs as often as you want.

One good tip to preserve the quality of your round rug is to put a good rug pad under it. Additionally, a pad can also prevent mishaps especially if you have children playing around as it prevents the rug from sliding around the floor, so it thwarts slipping and further injuries.

Care for another amazing decorating idea? Use a round rug as a wall decor! Never mind expensive artworks and framed photographs in gigantic sizes. A round rug is a great alternative for a wall accent, especially that its round shape contrasts the flat, rectangular outline of the wall. Better to show off a brightly colored round rug with an intricate design or big patterns for a maximum chic look.
